Jason S. Epperson has over 15 years of experience assisting both public and private clients with all their legal needs. He is currently the City Attorney for the City of Taft and has been the City Attorney or Deputy City Attorney for two other California cities. He provides advice on a full range of municipal laws, regulations, and contracts, as well as handles litigation on behalf of municipalities. He is also general counsel to various other public entities.
Jason also provides legal services to private sector businesses, where he advises them regarding their employment relationships, hiring, termination, investigations, wage and hour disputes, medical and other leaves of absence, sexual harassment, and discrimination. He litigates cases in state court, before the EEOC, and before the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing. Jason has represented clients before the Labor Commissioner many times, and has successfully tried administrative hearings in Fresno, Bakersfield, Santa Rosa, Oakland, Sacramento, and San Diego.
In addition to his work with employers, Jason has extensive experience advising both for-profit and nonprofit enterprises in their business decisions and legal needs. On behalf of his business clients, he litigates breach of contract, collection, and fraud cases. He negotiates and mediates settlements, as well as collects California and sister-state judgments. Jason also assists his business clients with contract review, drafting, and enforcement.
Jason speaks regularly on a variety of subjects, including Brown Act and mandatory ethics training, wage and hour compliance challenges, and employee classification risks. He also provides the sexual harassment training mandated by California law for certain businesses.
Jason remains involved and active in his community and in different organizations. He was a Charter Member of the Association of Workplace Investigators and is a former member of that organization’s editorial board. Jason is the former Fresno Representative to the San Joaquin Valley UC Alumni Network, where he helped to organize Fresno-area UC alumni, conducted outreach to Central Valley youth interested in attending a UC, and lobbied state legislators on behalf of education legislation.
Jason earned his B.A. from the University of California, Davis, and graduated from the University of San Diego School of Law.
