David A. Prentice is a public agency attorney with almost 30 years of practice experience. He is currently contract County Counsel for Alpine County and Sierra County, City Attorney for the City of Ione, as well as special labor and employment counsel for Merced Housing Authority and County of Merced. Mr. Prentice is also Assistant County Counsel for Trinity County and Modoc County, and performs labor negotiations for these agencies.
David began his career in 1989 after graduating at the top of his class, Order of the Coif, from University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. After a brief employment with Best, Best & Krieger in Southern California, he transferred back to his home town of Sacramento where he co-founded McGuire & Prentice, leaving only for an appointment as County Counsel for Madera County, where he headed up their legal department for nine years.
In addition to his work as general counsel, David has more than seven published decisions as a result of his litigation practice. He is well known as an educator in such topics as the Brown Act, Public Records Act, Proposition 218, Ethics and Sexual Harassment mandatory trainings. He recently co-founded the firm Prentice, Long & Epperson LLP to focus on rural and small public agencies. His areas of expertise and practice include Municipal Law, Litigation, Public Employment and Labor Law and Negotiations.
